MAALOX: This medication is used to treat diarrhea. It may also be used to reduce the amount of discharge from ileostomies.
MACROBID: Used for susceptible acute urinary tract infections.
MACRODANTIN: Urinary bacteriostatic.
MAG-CAL: Dietary supplement
calcium carbonate, vitamin D and multiple minerals.
MAGNESIUM CITRATE: Saline laxative.
MAGNESIUM SULFATE: Anticonvulsant, laxative, electrolyte replenisher.
MARCAINE: Trademark for a long acting local anesthetic agent. See "bupivacaine";
MARINOL: Antiemetic for chemotherapy ... appetite stimulant.
MAXAIR: Inhaler used for asthma.
MAXALT: Used to treat migraine headaches. A new generation (year 2000) of Triptan. Relief is as little as 30 minutes. Available in 10.5 mg tablets.
MAXIPIME: Cephalosporin antibiotic can be used in patients 2 months to 16 years of age.
MAXZIDE: Hypertension, edema.
MECAMYLAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE: A chemical substance that interrupts nerve impulses.
MECLIZINE: Nausea, vomiting and dizziness associated with motion sickness.
MEDADYNE: Anesthetic. Antiseptic.
MEDIPLEX: Vitamin/mineral supplement.
MEDROL: Steroid responsive disorders. 2, 4, 8, 16, 24, 32 milligrams.
MEDROXYPROGESTERONE: Antineoplastic, progestin.
MEGACE: Antineoplastic for breast/endometrial cancer.
MELLARIL: Psychosis, neurosis, hyperactivity, childhood behavior disorders, geriatric emotional disorders. Also, used to control hiccups, nausea / vomiting, anxiety.
MELPHALAN: A chemotherapy drug.
MENADOL: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
MEPERGAN: Narcotic ... sedative ... 25 mg/ml.
MEPERIDINE: A gas used as a general anesthetic.
MEPERIDINE: The chemical name for the narcotic painkiller Demerol.
MEPIVACAINE: Local anesthetic; Max dose for an adult is 50 ml of 1% solution; Lasts 2-3 hours; Onset 5-30 minutes.
MEPROBAMATE: Hypnotic sedative ... 200 mg, 400-mg oral.
MERIDIA: Adjunct for obesity.
MEROCEL: Type of sponge used for nose packing.
MESTINON: A popular treatment for myasthenia gravis because it increases the productivity of acetylcholine, which causes muscles to contract.
METAMUCIL: Laxative that helps restore normal moisture levels in the intestine and provide bulk to promote well-formed stools. They are used in the treatment of diarrhea or constipation and in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, spastic colon, diverticulitis and hemorrhoids.
METAXALONE: A centrally acting muscle relaxant (skeletal).
METFORMIN: Antidiabetic medication.
METHADONE: Narcotic analgesic.
METHALDOL: See "dimepheptanol".
METHERGINE: Postpartum hemorrhage; uterine atony; subinvolution.
METHOCARBAMOL: Painful musculoskeletal conditions.
METHOHEXITAL: A gas used as a general anesthetic.
METHOTREXATE: First used to control cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and Felty's syndrome; antineoplastic. Slows psoriasis.
METHOXYFLURANE: A gas used as a general anesthetic.
METHYLDOPA: Formerly called "alpha-methyldopa" ... antihypertensive, antiadrenergic. 125 mg, 250 mg, 500 mg.
METHYLPREDNISOLONE: Used as an adrenocorticoid.
METOCLOPRAMIDE: For symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux and esophageal lesions.
METRONIDAZOLE: Acne, amebicides, and antibiotics, orphan drugs, vaginal preparations. Excellent for trichomonas.
METOPROLOL: Beta-adrenergic blocking.
METYROSINE:
MEVACOR: Adjunct to diet in hypocholesterolemia. It is one of the "statin" drugs which reduces high blood pressure. It works by interfering with the ability of the liver to produce "bad" cholesterol (LDL) which attaches to artery walls to prevent blood from reaching the heart.
MEXILETINE: For documented, life threatening ventricular arrhythmias.
MGN3: Experimental drug from Japan.
MIACALCIN NASAL SPRAY: A hormone which slows down bone destruction due to osteoarthritis. An estrogen alternative. Minimal side effects ... rarely hives, diarrhea, stuffy nose and loss of appetite.
MICARDIS: Antihypertensive (angiotensin II receptor blocker).
MICATIN: Antifungal cream used for athlete's foot (tinea pedis) and jock itch (tinea cruris).
MICRONASE: Glyburide. Adjunct to diet in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
MICRONOR: Oral contraceptive.
MIDAZOLAM: Sedative. A gas used as a general anesthetic. Can cause amnesia about events that occur under its influence.
MIDRIN: Migraine and tension and vascular headaches.
MINIPRESS: Hypertension.
MINOCIN: Respiratory, skin and soft tissue, ear, nose and throat infections.
MINOXIDIL: Hair growth stimulator. It is sold as "Rogaine".
MIRAPEX: An imitation "dopamine" which is typically used for idiopathic Parkinson's disease to reestablish brain cell communication.
MIRCETTE: Birth control pills.
MITRAN: Anxiolytic.
MMR II: Abbreviation for "measles, , mumps and rubella virus vaccine".
MODAFINIL: A medication, which appears to be safe and effective for the treatment of narcolepsy.
MODUCARE: A blend of plant fats purported to be effective in the treatment of autoimmune disorders.
MODURETIC: Diuretic, antihypertensive.
MOISTUREL: Skin moisturizer.
MONOPRIL: CHF and hypertension.
MONUROL: Medication used for urinary tract infections.
MORPHINE: A highly effective narcotic medication, which can be, administered in a variety of ways ... injections ... suppository ... gel ... intravenous ... by mouth. When administered intravenously its effects are virtually immediate (within minutes).
MORPHINE PARENTERAL: A gas used as a general anesthetic.
MORIN: Anti-inflammatory.
MS: Morphine sulfate.
MS CONTIN: Prolonged relief of moderate to severe pain.
MSM: Abbreviation for "methylsulfonylmethane". A pain medication which works by blocking nerve impulses of pain from reaching the brain. It comes as a pill or cream and is commonly used to treat arthritis. Sold as a food supplement. Large scale testing has not been undertaken in the year 2000.
MUCOMYST: This medication works in the lungs to thin mucous and thus make breathing easier. It is used to treat thick mucous secretions in chronic emphysema, bronchitis, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis and other related conditions.
MUSE: A tiny pellet that is implanted into the urethra of the penis to aid in blood flow to the penis ... contains the drug alprostadil.
MVI: Multivitamins.
MYADEC: Vitamin and mineral supplement.
MYCOLOG: Mycolog cream is a topical antifungal corticosteroid used for cutaneous candidiasis.
MYCOSTATIN: Antihypertensive.
MYDRIACYL: Drops for the eye (for dilation).
MYLANTA: Hyperacidity with flatulence.
MYLICON: Antiflatulent.
MYSOLINE: Anticonvulsant.
MYTUSSIN: Expectorant.
