5-FU: See "Flucytosine ... anti-fungal.
FAMCICLOVIR: Antiviral.
FAMVIR: Herpes zoster (shingles); genital herpes.
FASTIN: For short term management of obesity originating from outside the body. To be used in conjunction with lifestyle modifications. Active ingredient is phentermine.
FELBATOL: Antiepileptic ... Wallace laboratories.
FELDENE: Anti-inflammatory drug (non-steroid), analgesic. Used to treat arthritis and other forms of joint and bone inflammation
FELODIPINE: Calcium channel blocker, antihypertensive, and vasodilator. The active ingredient in Lexxel and Plendil.
FEMSTAT BUTOCONAZOLE: Vulvovaginal candidiasis. This medication is used to treat vaginal fungal infections.
FENTANYL: Narcotic analgesic (painkiller). A gas used as a general anesthetic. Also, available as a patch placed on the skin every three days.
FERATIN: Antianemic tablets discontinued in 1991.
FERROUS SULFATE:
FIBERALL: A trademark preparation of psyllium, which is a good source of fibre. Note that too much, too soon, causes gas.
FIBERCON: Properly spelled ... "FiberCon". Laxative.
FIORICET: This medication is a pain reliever and sedative. It is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and tension headaches.
FIORINAL: Tension or muscle contraction headaches.
FLAGYL: Amebic dysentery; amebic liver abscess, susceptible anaerobic infections. Patients are often warned to refrain from using alcohol (even mouthwashes or topical preparations). Often prescribed for bacterial vaginosis.
FLEET ENEMA: Trademark for a manufactured enema formula. It is made from a disposable plastic pouch.
FLEET PHOSPHO-SODA: Laxative in an oral solution.
FLESTOLOL: Antiadrenergic.
FLEXERIL: For muscle spasms ... a potent muscle relaxant.
FLOMAX: Alpha-blocker.
FLONASE: This is a nasal corticosteroid that works directly on nasal tissue to reduce swelling and inflammation. The medication is used to treat itching, runny nose, postnasal drip, nasal congestion and sneezing associated with allergic rhinitis.
FLORINEF: A salt-retaining hormone. This medication acts on the kidneys to hold sodium and increase potassium in the urine. It is used in the treatment of Addison's disease and Shy-Drager syndrome.
FLOVENT: An oral steroid aerosol, which assists in reducing the inflammation of the airways, which causes shortness of breath, and wheezing. Side effects can include headaches, nasal congestion, upper respiratory infections, sore throat and the flu. Not intended to replace fast-acting inhalers used for sudden attacks. Typically used twice a day.
FLOXIN: General infections. 400 mg.
FLUCONAZOLE: Meningitis, candidiasis.
FLUCYTOSINE: Anti-fungal.
FLUDARABINE: Chemotherapy drug that can slow down the runaway multiplication of cells.
FLUMIST: A nasal spray influenza vaccine.
FLUORESCEIN: Used for eye exam.
FLUOXETINE: Anti-depressant.
FLUPHENAZINE: Antipsychotic.
FLURAZEPAM: Hypnotic, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxant.
FOLIC ACID: Sparks action from Vitamins A, D, E, and K. It can be obtained naturally from green leafy vegetables. It also affects the blood, liver and kidneys.
FOLLITROPIN ALFA: Also called ... "Gonal-F". For infertility in male and females.
FORTAZ: Trademark drug that is a broad-spectrum anti-biotic agent.
FOSAMAX: Also called ... alendronate sodium". Estrogen substitute. Gets calcium into osteoporotic bones. Used for osteoporosis ... it is also effective when brittle bones are caused by the long-term use of steroids. Side effects may include constipation, abdominal pain, diarrhea, muscle pain, bone pain and indigestion. Investigational for Paget's disease.
FOSPHENYTOIN: Anti-convulsant ... grand mal seizures.
FUROSEMIDE: Diuretic.
