BAYCOL: A “statin” drug that lowers cholesterol levels in most people.

CHOLESTYRAMINE: A drug that sops up bile. It is typically used for hypercholesterolemia, pruritus (due to partial biliary obstruction).

COLESTID: Also called ... “colestipol HCL”. Ani-cholesterol (antilipemic agent) medication ... 1 G, 5 G, 7.5 G or powder granules.

COLESTIPOL: A cholesterol lowering medication which works in the intestines by binding with cholesterol which contains bile acids and eliminating them through the bowels.

LESCOL: Categorized as a “statin” drug. Adjunct to diet in primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol levels).

LIPITOR: Adjunct to diet in hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol). The drug is a new class of medications called “statins” which lower blood levels of low-density lipoprotein (“bad cholesterol”) which clogs up arteries. Studies have concluded that people treated with Lipitor were less likely to have a heart attach, bypass surgery or worsening angina when compared with people who underwent angioplasty. Lipitor has an impressive safety record ... 80 milligrams is a typical daily dose.

LOVASTATIN: Medication that interferes with the body´s manufacture of cholesterol.

MEVACOR: Adjunct to diet in hypocholesterolemia. It is one of the “statin” drugs which reduces high blood pressure. It works by interfering with the ability of the liver to produce “bad” cholesterol (LDL) which attaches to artery walls to prevent blood from reaching the heart.

NIACIN: Combats hyperlipidemia; Vasodilator. Cholesterol lowering medicine.

PRAVACHOL: One of the “statin” drugs that reduce high blood pressure. It works by interfering with the ability of the liver to produce “bad” cholesterol (LDL) which attaches itself to artery walls to limit blood reaching the heart. This medication is used to lower high cholesterol levels in the blood. For best effects, this medication must be used along with exercise and a low cholesterol-low fat diet.

PRAVASTATIN: Medication that interferes with the body´s manufacture of cholesterol.

QUESTRAN: Anti-cholesterol drug.
