Anti-Aging and Positive Attitudes

If you find serenity and happiness, "they" may be jealous; Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and the Creator; It never was between you and "them" anyway.

LONGEVITY AND GENETICS

. . . SEARCHING FOR THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH

by Joseph Patrick Jakubal

SCIENTISTS said yesterday that they have taken the first step towards creating a pill to make people live longer.

Results from a U.S. study have concluded that people with genetic material in the vicinity of "chromosome #4" are predisposed to live long and healthy lives.

The American study of 308 people suggests that extreme old age may be determined by a cluster of genetic material in the vicinity of chromosome #4. This small area with many genes (100-500) is seen time-and-again in people who enjoy extreme longevity.

Boston reaearchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center say, those genes may retard the aging process for people who have them and that they could be expected to live long and healthy lives! It is interesting to note that these genes have never been identified with any particular disease, body organ or function.

This familial study reveals that people who live to be 100+ years of age will have an abnormally high number of siblings who also live to be 100+. One family, from the Boston area, had eight out of 10 siblings who were over 90 years of age. Statistics place the "probability" for this happening at less than one in 10 trillion! Blood samples were taken from each person involved in the study for the purpose of identifying genes that might be related to longevity ... this resulted in the discovery of chromosome #4 and it's genetic material.

For more information see the study published Aug. 28, 2001 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
