WHY DO WE AGE?

Reprinted with permission from the book THE ANTI-AGING CHRONICLES

We now have enough information to stay mentally and physically healthy as we age ... there is no longer a reason to "give it up" when we are 70 or 80 or 90 or 100+. How old would you like to live to if you can be active and happy? Well, it's time to think about it because a new age is dawning in health care and it's up to you to take advantage of it.

Mankind has been searching for the reasons as to why we age since the beginning of time ... and now for the first time in human history we have the answer! And it was in front of our noses all the time.

It's the same thing that makes metal rust or a newspaper turn yellow in the sun. It's called oxidation (corrosion) and it causes free radicals to form in your body.

Scientists have identified this corrosion as the basis for the aging process. It also debilitates the immunity system and leads to the primary killers in our society ... heart disease and cancer.

When your body is under normal circumstances it can neutralize the small amount of free radicals which naturally occur in the body. However, large amounts can cause irreversible damage.

Some things which can cause the production of free radicals in the body are: stress, exposure to the sun, automobile exhaust, tobacco smoke, x-rays, and diet.

Free radicals are also produced when your body ingests nutrients. During this process it uses oxygen to produce energy.

Oxidation occurs more readily in fat molecules than it does in proteins or carbohydrates and this is a good reason to limit the amount of fat in your diet.
